How I know that it's a software problem and not a mic/headphone problem: Livecd doesn't pick up the headphone audio, Laptop only does this after installing which makes me think this is a driver/kernel issue (that I don't know how to fix)
reinstalled pulseaudio and alsa after removing them. I am on Kubuntu 20.10 running on a nvidia optimus laptop (acer predator 300 to be exact). Output also doesn't work after I reboot (no speaker in tray) but I can fix that with a pulseaudio -k - Edit: this doesn't happen anymore after reinstalling kubuntu "Use only preferred or default device" box is not checked.I've tried reinstalling alsa and pulseaudio and that didn't fix it. In Windows XP, the USB Audio Device or Plantronics headset is not selected as the default audio recording device. The volume may be set very low in the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties window in the Windows Control Panel. The headset may be muted. Tip: On some corded headsets, the mute switch is located on the cord. Troubleshooting Sound Tests: If you are unable to perform a sound test, it may be because The input level should fluctuate as you speak. Click the Apple logo in the upper left corner, and then click System Preferences. Mac: Macs do not have a sound recorder however, they do enable you to view the input level of the microphone. You should hear the chosen sound in the headset. On the Sounds tab, click one of the sounds listed under Program Events, and then click the Test button. If this meter goes up and down as you speak, then the microphone is operational. While on the Recording tab, speak into view the meter to the right of the headset listing as you speak into the microphone. On the Playback and Recording tabs, select the Plantronics headset as the default device. Click the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Contact that application's technical support for assistance. Note: If your headset works in Sound Recorder but not in another software application, the issue is isolated to your software application. To verify the microphone on your headset is working properly, listen to your recording by clicking the Playback button. Talk into the microphone on your headset for about 10 seconds, and then click the Stop button.
Click the record button to start the recording. Open Sound Recorder by clicking the Start button, then Accessories, Entertainment, and finally, Sound Recorder.
